Robert
Blohowiak, DVM, CVSMT
Dr. Blohowiak
is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison,
School of Veterinary Medicine. He completed an equine internship
at the Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital in Oconomowoc,
Wisconsin and then stayed on as an associate veterinarian. Dr.
Blohowiak is certified by the American Veterinary Chiropractic
Association and is an international instructor for the Healing
Oasis Veterinary Hospital and Wellness Center. Dr. Blohowiak
purchased Great Lakes Equine Wellness Center in September 2006.
His special interests include veterinary chiropractic, acupuncture,
lameness, performance enhancement and prepurchase examinations.
In his free time, Dr. Rob raises and trains barrel racing horses
and competes internationally. He enjoys singing, and along with
his wife Mary, belongs to the Dudley Birder Chorale. Dr. Rob
has 3 boys – Noah, Jonah, and Joshua (Fin).
Paula
Valeria,
DVM
Dr. Valeria is a graduate of
the University of Wisconsin-Madison School
of Veterinary Medicine. She completed
an equine internship at Lake Country Equine Center (now
Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital) in Oconomowoc,
WI before coming to northeast Wisconsin to do ambulatory
equine practice. Dr. Valeria started Bay Meadow Equine
(formerly Abrams Veterinary Service) after the closure
of the practice in which she was employed. She has been
providing quality equine veterinary care to horses in the
greater Green Bay area for over a decade. Dr. Valeria enjoys
all aspects of equine practice particularly preventative
medicine, reproduction and client education. When not practicing
veterinary medicine, she enjoys spending time at home with
her husband, Scott, and their children Rachael, Ashley,
Zachary and Grace, as well as the family's horses, donkey,
dogs and cats.
Patty
Glover,
DVM, CVSMT, CVA
Dr. Patty grew up in the Black
Hills of South Dakota where her love for animals was kindled.
She attended the University of Minnesota School of Veterinary
Medicine where she spent many hours in the neonatal Intensive
Care Unit. After becoming a Veterinarian, Dr. Patty’s
passionate interest in integrative health care choices
for her animal patients lead her to further her education.
She has completed extensive training in Animal Chiropractic
at Options for Animals College of Animal Chiropractic and
in Veterinary Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine
with Dr. Shen Xie at the Chi Institute. Dr. Patty has practiced
in northeast Wisconsin since 2001 where she focuses on
a holistic approach to practice; integrating traditional
care with chiropractic, acupuncture, nutrition, behavior,
hoof care and dentistry. This assures quality healthcare
for your horses while offering maximum choices in treatment.
Additionally, Dr. Patty has been certified in Animal Chiropractic
by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association
and presently shares her skills and teaches at Options
for Animals. In her ‘spare time’, Patty
enjoys studying equine behavior and natural horsemanship
with her companion ‘Sasquatch’. She loves spending
time with her family and solving crossword puzzles with
help from her three fantastic dogs.
Helen Hughes, DVM
Dr. Hughes grew
up on a hobby farm in Estern Iowa where a love for animals
and veterinary medicine was fostered at an early age. After
attending Loras College for biochemistry, she focused her clinical
interest primarily on horses. She completed an internship at
the Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital where she further
developed skills that prepared her for the challenges of practicing
ambulatory medicine. Dr. Helen
looks forward to meeting new clients and getting involved in
the local community. When not working, she enjoys traveling,
spending time with family, outdoor activities
and working with her two horses.
Barbara Jones, DVM
Dr. Barbara Jones, who grew up in Wisconsin,
spent some time in Australia at a racetrack practice. It was
there she realized her interest in equine medicine and decided
to go to vet school. She
attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (West
Indies) and spent her clinical year at Cornell University (New
York). After relocating to the Fox Cities with her fiance, a
veterinary ophthalmologist at Fox Valley Animal Referrel Center, she
plans to get
a horse or two and start competing in dressage
or jumping. Dr. Barbara and her fiance, Keith, enjoy adventure
ultramarathons in remote areas of the world. Dr. Jones
has two Great Danes, two Boston Terriers and a Rag Doll cat.
Dan Liebsch, DVM
Dr. Daniel Liebsch, an
Iowa native, received both his Bachelor of Science and his Doctorate
in Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University. Upon
graduating from veterinary school, he completed an equine internship
at an equine referral hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He
then practiced at an equine practice in eastern Iowa for a year
before moving to GLEWC. Dr. Liebsch's particular interests
include lameness, internal medicine, ophthalmology, neonatology, and
soft tissue surgery. Ariana, Dr. Liebsch’s wife, is
a small animal veterinarian. Daniel and Ariana are expecting
their first child in November. His hobbies include spending time
with family, outdoor activities, volleyball, and showing horses.
Dr. Liebsch is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association,
American Association of Equine Practitioners and the Wisconsin
Veterinary Medical Association.
Kristin
Hamilton
Kristin was born and grew up in Neenah, WI.
She graduated from Neenah High school. A few years later she
graduated from Bel-Rea Institute for veterinary technician training
in Denver, CO. She has been working at Great Lakes Equine Wellness
Center since February of 2005. She doesn’t have any horses of her own
but has taken lessons and currently rides her friend’s
horses when the opportunity exists. When Kristin isn’t
working she is busy teaching her dog new tricks and training
her for agility, flyball, and Frisbee competition. She also shoots
darts once a week.
Lindsay
Shafer
Lindsay was born and raised in Stonington, Connecticut
and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor's
degree in Animal Scienceand a concentration in equine kinesiology.
Riding and owning horses most of her life, her experiences
include showing in both equitation and jumpers and playing
polo at the University of Connecticut. When she recently moved
to Wisconsin, she was able to bring along one of her horses,
Patrick, an Irish Sport Horse. Her Thoroughbred, Logan, remains
semi-retired in the warmer New England weather. While in Connecticut,
Lindsay served as communications manager & head
veterinary technician for a mixed animal veterinary practice.
She also has a background in journalism, previously writing
for the Eastern Connecticut State University Athletic Department,
Country Folks Magazine and UConn’s animal science department.
Stacey
Asendorf
Stacey was born in Chicago, IL and raised
in Walworth, WI. Stacey owned and enjoyed riding horses through
her childhood. She
attended SCSU for one year and decided to go on to technician
school. She graduated from the University of Minnesota – Waseca
with an associate degree in Animal Science. Stacey and her husband,
Brian live in Neenah and keep very busy with their 5 daughters
and all of their school and sports activities.
Faith
Kehl
Faith was born in The Netherlands, on an
Air Force Base. however she spent most of her adolescent life
in Bitburg, Germany, and New London, Wisconsin, where she realized
her love of horses. Faith worked at Monica and Harry Gebheim's
stable where she learned about horses. They aided in Faith’s passion for competing
and introduced her to the sport of barrel racing. Faith also
worked for Wolf River Veterinary Clinic, Great Lakes Veterinary
Clinic and at a group home for developmentally disabled adults
where she learned about patience and how keep a sense of humor
in a stressful environment. Faith’s
favorite parts about being a veterinary assistant is the constant
learning, emergency care, and most favorite, caring for foals.
In Faith’s
free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and riding
her horses (with an occasional barrel race on her old mare, Fancy).
Faith has two dogs, two cats and four horses.
Katie Krueger
Katie was born and raised in a small town called
Oakfield, Wisconsin. Oddly enough
she was not brought up around horses, yet has a great passion for riding and
caring for them. She is currently attending Moraine Park Technical College
to become a Certified Veterinary Technician. She previously worked in a
small animal practice as a Veterinary Assistant. In her free time, Katie
enjoys spending a lot of time outside, spending time
with her dog Diesel, reading and bowling.
Jeff
Rowe
Jeff was raised in Neenah, WI. He became
a certified veterinary technician in 2002 after attending Bell-Rea
Institute of Animal Technology. Jeff spent most of his career
working at an equine referral hospital in Littleton, Colorado
where he specialized in radiology and anesthesia. Jeff
finished his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of
Wisconsin–Oshkosh and is currently attending University
of Wisconsin – Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine. In his
free time, Jeff enjoys running, biking and many other outdoor
activities.
Katie
Brucks
At the age of 10, Katie began riding dressage
under the instruction of Pat Heeg at Prairieview Farm in Greenville.
After graduating from Neenah High she attended the University
of Minnesota–Crookston. While studying in Crookston she rode
on both the western/reining team and hunter/jumper team. In
the spring of 2005 she was placed 10th in the nation by the
Intercollegiate Horse Show Association in western equitation
at the national competition. Her final year in college she
coached the UMC Hunter/Jumper team and taught the lab portions
of equine reproduction techniques and equine production. In
December 2005, she graduated from Crookston with a Bachelor
of Science in Equine Industries Management. She is also a certified
equine sports massage therapist. Katie began working at Great
Lakes Equine Wellness Center in January 2006 as the Inventory
Manager. Outside of work Katie teaches riding lessons and adores
spending time with her two sons and husband on their farm in
Neenah.
Heather
Thorn
Heather is our Human Resource Manager originally from Horicon.
She went to college at the University of Wisconsin – River
Falls (UWRF) where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree
in Animal Science – Science Option with an Equine Emphasis.
After earning her Bachelor of Science degree she decided one
degree wasn’t enough and went back to UWRF to pursue her Bachelor
of Liberal Arts degree in Psychology with a Business Emphasis.
While attending UWRF, Heather was very active in Psi Chi (a
Psychology honor society), the Rodeo Team and the Colts in
Training classes offered through the school. In her spare time
she enjoys riding her 30-year-old Quarter Horse, Chip, and
spending time outdoors with her husband and stepdaughter.
Becky
Wickesberg
Becky has owned & ridden horses for over 25 years. She was
born in Little Chute, but grew up in Neenah. She owns WestWind
Paints, a Paint horse breeding and boarding facility in Seymour
where she lives with her two daughters. Becky gives beginner
riding lessons and trains & sells horses out of her stable.
She has worked in the veterinary profession as a veterinary assistant,
office staff or office manager for 20 years in Winneconne, Neenah,
Omro, Seymour and Green Bay. She comes to Great Lakes Equine
Wellness Center with the acquisition of Bay Meadow Equine. In
her spare time, she enjoys trail riding and working with her
horses, football, fishing and friends.
Erin McKeen
Erin was born at
home in Hilbert, Wisconsin and was home schooled from kindergarten
through high school. She doesn't have any horses of her own,
but enjoys riding occasionally with friends. She has an orange
tom cat named Jack. She and her husband were recently restationed
to the Appleton area after living in Madison for a few years.
These days Erin keeps herself busy traveling
to Oklahoma to visit her sister and family.
